A warm bilingual space where children grow together.

German–Spanish immersion in a caring, parent-run Kita in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg.

Los Treinta Lobitos is a bilingual, parent-run Kita where children grow in a warm, inclusive and multicultural environment. Our team of 7 educators cares for 32 children in two mixed-age groups, creating a space where Spanish and German are experienced naturally every day.

Pedagogical Approach

Our concept:
A language is more than words.

Our pedagogical work follows each child’s age, needs, strengths and interests. Children learn through play, curiosity and emotional security.

Natural bilingualism

Research shows that learning two or more languages in early childhood happens naturally. At Treinta Lobitos, Spanish-speaking children experience Spanish not only as a “home language”, but also as the language of play and friendship. Children from German- and Spanish-speaking families learn both languages in a joyful, playful and natural way.

Cultural richness

We celebrate German, Spanish and Latin American stories, songs, holidays, traditions and food. Through daily contact with multiple cultures, children learn that differences are enriching — a foundation for tolerance, empathy and social competence.

Growing as people

Our aim is not only for children to learn two languages, but also to become open-minded, confident and socially aware individuals. Living in a multilingual, multicultural community strengthens collaboration, communication and the ability to navigate social situations with care.

Parent participation is at the heart of who we are.

A warm community built by families, for families — and it works because we build it together.

A parent-run association

Treinta Lobitos is an officially recognized parent-initiative Kita (ElKiTa). It functions like a public kindergarten, but it is organized and managed by the families whose children attend it. All parents are members of the non-profit association and share responsibility for the long-term direction of the Kita. Important topics are discussed and decided collectively in general assemblies, held at least twice a year or whenever needed. This shared governance keeps our community strong, transparent and deeply connected.

Preschool Classroom Activity

Why parent participation matters

Parents help keep the Kita running smoothly — from cleaning days and small repairs to supporting educators and contributing to decisions. This engagement strengthens our sense of community and keeps the Kita warm, collaborative and financially sustainable.

Teamwork and responsibilities

Each family joins one of our working groups, such as: Shopping • Hygiene • IT • Communication • Maintenance • Facilities & garden care • Admissions • Events & trips • Executive Board • HR • Finance • and more. To ensure the Kita can remain open even when staffing is tight, families also support in exceptional situations.

To ensure the Kita can stay open when staffing is tight, families support in exceptional situations. Unlike many other Kitas, if a few educators are sick, we coordinate among parents — especially those with flexibility that day — to assist after 3 pm so the group remains supervised and the Kita does not need to close. This support is occasional, shared, and an important part of our community.
